Penang Food " Food Paradise of Asia"

1. Nasi Kandar

Nasi Kandar is synonymous with Penang as this is where this famous meal originates from. The interesting part about nasi kandar is that it is not a stand alone dish, but rather a whole sub-set of the Indian-Muslim cuisine in Malaysia! The Nasi Kandar is basically rice served with a host of curries, meat, vegetables and other side dishes. You will experience an explosion of taste unlike any curry you have enjoyed before. The curries served are chicken, fish, prawn, squid and beef, with occasional crab and the fish roe, as well as the popular non-spicy lamb kurma. Price range from RM5.00 to above RM10.00 per plate depending on your order of side dishes.

Also known as Mee Goreng Mamak, this dish is unique because of its thick spicy tomato gravy which the yellow noodles are fried in. The lime squeezed over the noodles, balance the heat from the gravy and adds a hint of tangy goodness to this irresistible dish. This hearty dish come at a price of RM3.50.

Whether it is the spicy and smokey Malay-style ikan bakar, lip-smacking Chinese black pepper crab, or the succulent Indian Tandoori prawn, the selection does not stop here as you can also get delicious Thai, authentic nyonya, western and fusion styles seafood. 4. Roti Canai

Roti Canai is a national favorite in Malaysia. An Indian-Muslim style flat bread, the Roti Canai makes the perfect base for spicy curries. The Roti Canai is soft, buttery and fluffy on the inside but crispy and flaky on the outside, very much like the Danish pastry. Made from wheat flour, eggs, water and vegetable fat, the dough undergoes an intense process of kneading before it tossed and spun in the air until it becomes a very thin sheet. then it is folded into a circular shape. Sometimes, the Roti Canai is referred to as "flying bread" due to the act of tossing and spinning.it is then friedon a hot iron skillet with lots of oils until the outer layer is crispy and golden. For an explosion of taste,  try the combination of dhal and anchovy sambal with your roti canai. A plate of plain Roti Canai with curry costs around RM1.00.
